Welcome to Kappa Sigma at JSU

A Letter from the President to Incoming Freshmen

Dear Fellow Gamecock,

First of all, welcome to the Gamecock family! Let me be one of the many to congratulate you on your decision to attend Jacksonville State University. My name is Dillon Wood, and I currently serve as the President of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity here at JSU. I am writing to you today to encourage you to consider going Greek once you step foot on campus.

You may be thinking to yourself, “why would I want to go Greek?” Joining a fraternity allows you the opportunity to meet life long friends that will always be there for you. I encourage you to consider Kappa Sigma in your process of looking at fraternities. Since 1869, Kappa Sigma has added immensely to the collegiate experience, promoting gentlemanly behavior, studious activity and brotherhood amongst our members. Our goal is to ensure success in your efforts and provide the structure for your future adult life.

In the Spring 2014 semester, Kappa Sigma ranked first out of all fraternities on campus in grades with an overall 2.84 GPA. On average, Greek organizations have higher GPAs than non-Greek students, and we take pride in having the highest GPA amongst all other fraternities. Along with our studies, we work hard to serve our philanthropy, Military Heroes, which honors and aids wounded veterans and their families. Our philanthropy is something that holds a special place in our hearts and something that we work hard to serve.

If you are looking to develop as a man, strive for success in and out of the classroom, and to have the best four years of your life, then I strongly encourage you to consider Kappa Sigma. Pledging Kappa Sigma is and will forever remain the best decision of my collegiate career, and I am confident that you will feel the same way in due time. If you are interested, please click on the RUSH link, or contact me at (256) 375-9145. I look forward to meeting you and go Gamecocks!

Regards,

Dillon Wood

Brothers for Life

Pictured are Brothers Steve Camp, Jake Camp, and Tyler Camp with Brother and Formaer JSU President Dr. Theron Montgomery at this year's Annual Back on the Farm Party. Back on the Farm is an event held every Spring by the active brothers for alumni to come back and share their stories from when they were in college. This year, the actives honored Dr. Montgomery with the "Theron Montgomery Hall of Honor" award. This award honors alumni who have continued to excel in Kappa Sigma excellence after graduation.

Brothers Jake and Tyler Camp are the sons of Brother Steve Camp, continuing Kappa Sigma as a family tradition.

President Obama Honors a True Hero

Brother Kyle Carpenter (Chi-Omega, South Carolina, ’13) received the Medal of Honor on June 19th from President Barack Obama for serving his country and in protection and care for his fellow soldier. Brother Carpenter is a retired Marine Corporal and receive the nation's highest military award given for bravery. He is the third Marine to be awarded the medal since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Brother Carpenter will be recognized with this honor for covering a grenade with his body to save the life of a fellow Marine in 2010. The soldier that he saved was Cpl. Nicholas Eufazio. Both survived the blast of the grenade, but both were badly wounded. Brother Carpenter has had a remarkable recovery and will be decorated for his heroic action.
Kappa Sigma salutes this Brother today. Today our hearts are filled with pride for this Patriot.

Congratulations, Brother Carpenter. You earned and deserved it. AEKDB!
